SaskPower faces some big decisions when it comes to our power future – decisions we know will impact the lives and livelihoods of our customers and stakeholders.
The power system that’s served this province for over 90 years must adapt to meet strict federal regulations on greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, improved and new technologies are radically changing how we – and increasingly, our customers – produce and distribute electricity. Like all businesses, we need to deliver the quality of service customers expect at a price that’s cost-effective for all customers.
SaskPower’s mandate today is to provide reliable, cost-effective, sustainable electricity to the customers and communities we serve. That’s why it’s important to us that decisions related to the future power system benefit from the input of the people we serve.
To provide input we all need to know what’s at stake, the strengths and weaknesses of the options being evaluated and the evaluation and decision-making process. Some call this enhancing energy literacy. We call it an opportunity for dialogue.
What we’ll talk about:
The range of power sources being evaluated as part of our plans for a sustainable power future. This includes adding more electricity from outside Saskatchewan; and, the potential role of nuclear power from small modular reactors (SMRs) after 2030.
Your perspectives on the evaluation criteria and considerations.
What sustainable means to you.
We commit to:
Sharing information about our challenge and plans.
Listening to your interests and concerns.
Letting you know how your feedback is used.
Providing opportunities for ongoing dialogue.
